Beschreibung des DatensatzesThe resource consists of an English language course for secondary level learners of English as a foreign language. The course centers around the topic of global citizenship, encompassing a well-structured curriculum comprising language activities and multimedia resources, which can be seamlessly integrated into the Moodle learning management system. The course focuses on the theme of global citizenship through exploring the life and person of Alexander von Humboldt. It includes four modules that engage students in activities to define the concept of global citizenship and explore Humboldt's life and contributions, present his various roles and critically assess his impact on global citizenship. Module 1 focuses on defining the concept of a global citizen where students compare their personal understanding, discuss similarities and differences, and formulate a common definition of global citizenship. Module 2 involves watching videos to extract information about Humboldt's character, expeditions and scientific contributions. Module 3 explores Humboldt's various roles, with students reading excerpts from a biography and presenting him as naturalist, activist, advisor, author or scientist. In Module 4, students discuss Humboldt's significance for contemporary global citizenship and the relevance of Humboldt's life for today's generation. The main course is accompanied with separate teaching notes, a document designed to support teachers by providing detailed overview of the course content with in-depth explanations, essential teaching points and suggested approaches for interactive activities. This dataset offers educators a valuable resource for promoting English language skills, scientific knowledge, critical thinking abilities and cultural awareness among high school students, fostering their understanding of global citizenship and its relevance in today's world.

Forschungsdesign"Humboldt 250" is an interdisciplinary project designed for the English language classroom at high school level, focusing on the topic of Alexander von Humboldt and global citizenship. The project aims to explore the legacy of Alexander von Humboldt as a global citizen through a series of research and inquiry-based tasks and carefully selected learning materials. The project is designed to be connected with the wider school project "Going Green - Education for Sustainability" in the English language classroom and consists of four modules, each approximately one double lesson in length. The modules provide opportunities for students to develop their English language skills: Students engage in discussions, presentations, and writing tasks, which enhance their speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities. They acquire vocabulary related to global citizenship, scientific concepts and discourse, thereby improving their language proficiency and communication skills. The exposure to Humboldt's scientific expeditions and discoveries broadens their knowledge base and fosters an appreciation for scientific inquiry, critical thinking and curiosity about the natural world. Furthermore, the integration of Humboldt's life and work helps students connect various subjects such as language, arts, history, geography and science, thus providing a holistic educational experience. The modules are also designed to encourage critical thinking as students compare definitions, analyze information and evaluate Humboldt's actions as a global citizen. They are prompted to reflect on the relevance of Humboldt's legacy to contemporary society and consider their own roles as global citizens.
