Information on the section Research Data

PubData is responsible for the archiving and publishing of research data from Leuphana’s scientific acitivities and projects. As an institutional data repository, it covers not only one scientific field, but generally addresses all scientific disciplines.
PubData represents one of several potential publication channels for your data and research results. Please review your options and choose the repository that suits your requirements and purposes. It often makes sense to prioritise a discipline-specific data repository because of the the possibility to flank your data with discipline-specific metadata and contexts to facilitate the findability and reuse for the target group, i.e. mainly the own scientific community.

How is research data defined in the PubData context?

The focus of the inventory development and maintenance lies on research data in digital form. More specificly and in compliance with the PubData Collection Policy Research Data (→ Download area Guidelines), research data is understood to be all digital data and materials that are the subject of a research process, are created during a research process or are its result. Characteristics vary according to scientific disciplines. Research instruments and every kind of documentary and materials in direct context to the research data are explicitly included.

Who can use the service?

The service is addressed to all employees and researchers from cooperation partners contractually associated with Leuphana University of Lueneburg. It is free of charge. External use of the services is possible after registration and in consultation with the service provider. Owners of a Leuphana account are already authorised to use the services.

What are the key tasks regarding research data?

Publishing research data

PubData aims to make research results, especially research data, available for third party use under regulated terms of use. Whenever possible, the data shall be published open access. Besides, it is possible to publish research data and materials with restricted access for a limited group of scientific users. PubData understands itself as a FAIR data repository. Please view Guidelines Research Data for more information.

In the progress of the publishing process, all data publications also become citable by being assigned a persistent identifier (DOI).

Preservation and archiving of research data

As a basis task, PubData offers the long-term preservation of research data without its publishing aiming to fulfil the recommendations of safeguarding the good scientific practice. This means that data is transferred to PubData for pure storage and is kept there safe in closed access for a period of usually 10 years using standardised, professional procedures to guarantuee data integrity and security.

How can I use PubData?

Submit Data

After successful login (and registration for non-Leuphana members), you can either upload data for sole archiving purposes or for additional publication. Via a submission form (accessible via the buttons "Archive" or "Publish" or via your workspace "My PubData") you can submit your information and data to us. The upload for exceptionally large files (>4 gigabytes) is recommended to be performed via the campus network of Leuphana University of Lueneburg.

Reuse Data

Check out research data inventory in the PubData catalogue. By using the search or the browsing functionality you can navigate through the catalogue and find adjusting data records. There you will get the essential information about the data as well as the files themselves including access conditions / licenses to be considered.

Information on the section Publications

On PubData, publications of various types are published free of charge and permanently. Thus, literature publications (e.g. books, articles, theses, conference proceedings, reports) and alternative publication formats (e.g. multimedia, teaching and learning materials, posters, presentation slides) can be made available to a global community.

How is publication defined?

As an institutional repository, PubData provides digital publications that were either created as part of a research or teaching activity at Leuphana or are products of the Leuphana study program. These materials are used for the interpretation and communication of scientific examinations. They can made available either as a first publication (= publication, that has not been published before) or a parallel publication (= publication, that has previously been published elsewhere). More information about the inclusion criteria can be found in the → PubData Collection Policy Publications.

Who can use the service?

The publication service is offered free of charge to researchers, teachers, students, and cooperation partners of Leuphana. Student publications require a → publication recommendation from the respective supervisor or lecturer. The PubData catalogue can be searched worldwide at no cost, without the need for registration.

What are the key tasks regarding publications?

PubData enables worldwide free and permanent publication of publications from the contexts of research, teaching and studies. These publications are archived for at least 10 years and are provided with a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) so that the content remains permanently citable. The publications are publicly visible via the PubData catalogue and are automatically indexed in other databases and search engines. In this way, the publications gain greater visibility and reach.

How can I use PubData?

Publishing

You can submit your materials independently via PubData (directly via the "Publish" button or via your workspace "My PubData"). After logging in with your Leuphana account, the publications are described via a submission form and then uploaded. After this, you define the terms of use and conclude a publication agreement. If required, you can set an embargo period so that a publication is only released to the public after a defined period of time. The core condition for publication is that the respective authors have the necessary rights.

In the case of student publications, a → publication recommendation is required from the respective reviewers or lecturers. After the publication has been submitted to PubData, the completed form must be sent to pubdata@leuphana.de .

Searching

You can discover the PubData inventory via the search or browsing functionality. Publications can only be reused in accordance with the terms of use specified by the creators. The license information is provided in the metadata of the respective publication.
