Abstract
The data is the result of a structured questionnaire survey conducted in Zambia with 190 community members (103 women and 87 men) to assess perceptions of equity and social cohesion. The dataset was gathered in August and September 2024. Household selection was conducted using a systematic approach due to logistical constraints, as households were not numbered and were sometimes far from each other. Upon arriving in each village, interviewers proceeded in three different directions from a central point, interviewing eligible households along their respective routes, a method adapted from spatial survey techniques in rural settings. Each survey lasted between 45 and 60 minutes. Participants rated their trust in various governance actors on a scale of 1 to 10 and answered Likert-scale questions evaluating community fairness, willingness to collaborate, sense of belonging, and participation in Community-based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) institutions. To explore perceptions of fairness, respondents were asked to rate fairness on a Likert-scale. They then provided follow-up responses explaining perceived reasons for unfairness.
