Abstract
This research explores the role of a proposed pedestrian bridge in fostering cross-border integration between Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice. The Odra River is often perceived as a political border rather than a shared ecological resource that needs joint protection, and there are many challenges connected to the existing car bridge, including limited connectivity, air quality, and traffic jams. Through unstructured interviews, participatory intervention, and a stakeholder workshop, we investigated how a pedestrian bridge could transform perceptions of the river and enhance community cohesion. Findings reveal a shared vision of an accessible, multifunctional bridge that could bring the cross-border community together. However, ecological considerations remain secondary, highlighting the need for better inclusion of non-human actors in future planning.
