Technikvergessenheit?

Der Beitrag nimmt die Technikkonzepte bei Ernst Kapp und Georg Simmel in den Blick und konzentriert sich dabei besonders auf den Aspekt der Eigenmächtigkeit und Unhintergehbarkeit von Technik. Sowohl Kapp als auch Simmel lösen die Technik dabei zunächst aus ihrer sozialen und vor allem ökonomischen Bedingtheit, um sie in einem zweiten Schritt zu entgrenzen und ihr ubiquitäre Wirkung zuzuschreiben. Diese Perspektive zeigt die Nähe jener frühen Techniktheorien zu aktuellen Konzepten vor allem der Medientheorie und eröffnet so die Frage, warum jene die Abwendung von einem instrumentellen Technikbegriff, die bereits von Kapp und Simmel abgeschlossen wurde, immer wieder neu vollziehen bzw. explizit machen muss.

The text focusses on concepts of Technology established by Ernst Kapp and Georg Simmel. It is primarily concerned with the aspects of autonomy and ubiquity of technology. Kapp as well as Simmel are detaching technology from its social and economical conditions to elaborate a concept of autonomous and ubiquitous technology. This perspective highlights the parallels between these early theories of technology and actual concepts as they occur for instance in postmodern mediatheory. In doing so, it rises the question, why the latter has to stress its emancipation from instrumental concepts of technology – a step that has already taken place around 1900 in the theories of Kapp and Simmel amongst others – time and again.
