Kybernetische Biopolitik

Das „Quantified Self“-Netzwerk wird in der gegenwärtigen Literatur primär aus der Perspektive des Gesundheitsmonitorings beschrieben. Eine weiterführende Analyse der umfassenden Selbstvermessungspraktiken zeigt, dass das quantifizierte Selbst nicht nur Optimierungslogiken oder Gesundheitsimperativen folgt, sondern dem Steuerungsphantasma einer kybernetischen Biopolitik entspricht. Das Hervorholen und Festschreiben vitaler Charakteristika des gesamten und umfassenden Lebens stehen bei der Selbstvermessung im Vordergrund. Die biopolitischen Reg(ul)ierungstechnologien beschreiben einen spezifischen Zugriff auf das unkontrollierbare Leben, seine Produktivitätssteigerung, als (im)materielle Arbeit am Selbst.

Recent literature analyses the „Quantified Self“-Network primarily from the perspective of health-monitoring. Further analyses of the extensive selftracking practices shows that the quantified self doesn’t just constitute itself alongside logics of optimization or imperatives of health, but the phantasms of regulation of cybernetic biopolitics. The production and codifying of vital characteristics of everything living is the core of the self-quantification. Biopolitical technologies of regulation and government describe this specific access of uncontrollable life and increase of productivity as (im)material labour.
