Raffaels ›Mona Lisa‹

Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit dem künstlerischen Verhältnis zwischen Leonardo da Vinci und Raffael di Urbino. Als Ausgangspunkt dient Raffaels Gemälde ›Mädchen mit Einhorn‹ (1505), welches als eine Adaption der ›Mona Lisa‹ (1503) bekannt ist. Anhand ikonographischer Beschreibung und kunstgeschichtlicher Kontextualisierung lässt sich das Thema beider Bilder in einem fundamentalen Wandel des Geschlechterverständnisses verorten. Auf diesen Befund aufbauend können zusätzliche Auswirkungen rekonstruiert werden. Sie reichen bis in die Spätphase beider Künstler und helfen, ihr Œuvre im Kontext der Renaissance besser einzuordnen. In Andeutungen entsteht dabei ein Geschichtsbild, welches auch Auswirkungen auf die Gegenwart enthält.

This article examines the artistic relationship between Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael of Urbino. The starting point is Raphael’s painting “Girl with a Unicorn” (1505), which is known as an adaptation of da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” (1503). Based on iconographic descriptions and art-historical contextualization, the theme of both paintings can be situated within a fundamental shift in the understanding of gender. Building on this finding, additional implications can be reconstructed. These extend into the late phases of both artists’ careers and help to better situate their oeuvre within the context of the Renaissance. In the process, a historical perspective emerges that also hints at implications for the present.
